The NODLET, a name derived from an acronym for Nodular, Octahedral, Double-Layered, Expandable Truss, is a brilliant innovation in the field of foldable space structures. A space structure is a rigid three dimensional latticework comprising of interconnected rods and nodes that span and enclose large areas, while minimizing the use of supporting columns.

The NODLET is relatively new, deceptively simple, and has an unique folding ability no other truss system possesses, taking up, when closed, approximately 5% of its expanded volume, and easily erected into multiple geometric shapes. The concept was reviewed by a number of experts in the field of space structures and structural engineering and all of them agreed it was an original and more elegant design than other systems.  Its deployment could be governed by pneumatics, hydraulics or servo motors, depending on the application.
